How the 4-MIX® Lubrication System Works
Unlike a conventional four-stroke engine, the STIHL 4-MIX® engine uses mixture lubrication. The petrol-and-oil mixture circulates through the engine to provide lubrication, eliminating the need for a separate oil pump, oil tank and oil sump.
This design combines four-stroke operating principles with the practical refuelling routine familiar from two-stroke tools. There is no separate engine-oil circuit or routine oil change.
Always use the fuel-and-oil mixture specified in the instruction manual for the particular model. The correct mixture ratio and fuel requirements may vary by market and tool.
